Self initiated sleeve design project for Neil Cowley Trio‘s “The City And The Stars”, taken from their stunning 2016 album, Spacebound Apes, released on Hide Inside Records.

The marks that human existence continues to leave are no longer limited to the world we inhabit. The lights of apartments and offices seem to crudely echo the clusters and constellations of the universe. Just as the artificial light of the city bleaches the night sky, I wanted to blur the line where the man-made city meets the expanse of space.

This conceptual 12″ vinyl record design features two (as yet) imaginary remixes of the original track. The A-side, “The City”, and the B-side “The Stars”, explore it from both sides of the line. When played together you’ll need two copies and two turn tables), the two tracks combine to create a third unique composition.
